sunrisemagpie: Kate Bishop as Hawkeye on a field of gold glitter (Default)
Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for offering to write in my fandoms! I am also SunriseMagpie on AO3. I am opted-in for gifts and treats!

Umbrella Do Not Wants:

  • rape/non con/dub con
  • incest
  • graphic descriptions of injuries to eyes, ankles, knees, or wrists.
  • character death of anyone I request

Things I LOVE in fics:
You might get a good idea of what I'm about by looking at my bookmarked fics on AO3, but in short:

  • I love stories told through ephemera, whether that's through email, social media, case notes, whatever. I especially love how you can get multiple points of view on events.
  • I'm a big fan of people who are just WILD about the people they like, whether that's romantic/sexual/platonic/whatever.
  • I love puns!! I love language shenanigans, but I do recognize that is a very difficult thing to pull off.
  • I adoooooore stories about relationship negotiation as people are becoming friends or becoming lovers--I see this a lot in polyamory fics and I wish I saw more of this kind of story in other areas!! Relationships are constantly shifting and I love seeing how different characters deal with these changes and come out stronger, more honest, more accurate-to-who-they-are.
  • I'm a big fan too of FAKE DATING for parental/family/business benefit, especially if that goes along with SHARING A BED. Also a fan of "pretending we aren't dating" for similar reasons.
  • I love Outsider POV!!!!
  • I am a sucker for all stripes of kidfic. (Pregnancy fic is also fine!)
  • I adore Hurt/Comfort, but I always want a HEFTY dose of comfort on the back-end. Generally I prefer long denouements of contentedness in any story, and this is especially important in things on the whumpy end of the scale.
  • A friend once said that my fic rec requests are like 'I would like the Wayne Family Adventures webcomic but in fic form' and I stand by that assessment.
  • Team-as-family vibes
  • What I'm always looking for out of a yuletide fic is something that when I go back to it, makes me feel happy and smiley, so ultimately uplifting and yeah, probably a bit cheesey.

Fandom Info:

Fandom: The Bloodright Trilogy - Emily Skrutskie
Characters: Ettian Nassun, Gal emp-Umber, Hanji Iwam, Wen Iffan
Why I love this:
This trilogy is SO tightly plotted and it is a TRAGEDY that covid meant it didn't get the attention it deserved. The political lines, the tragedy of it all, the morality of ultimate power, the thesis that the scale is too fucking boggling and you can never forget the human cost but also if you only focus on the human cost you WILL go insane. The series also seriously considers the One Good Kick concept, and how you DO need That One Person to come in and get the dominoes prepped and then hand it over to the machinery of group to make it happen.
Request: Post-canon fic please!!! I want to know how everything turns out for the galaxy!!! I wanna know ALL the political machinations of reshaping the galaxy!! I wanna know how Iva reacts!! More importantly, I want to know more about their lives as they settle into adulthood. (Genfic is great, and if shipfic, Ettian/Gal and Hanji/Wen, please.)

I am totally fine with a fic featuring just Hanji and Wen or just Gal and Ettian.

Prompts:

  • A story told through messages back and forth between them all.
  • So Wen and Hanji hooked up at some point, either in canon or after, RIGHT??? How did that happen?
  • Fucked up power dynamic sex between Gal and Ettian when one was prisoner of the other. (Though please paired with, like, a post-canon comfort scene where they're stupid goopy and on the same page.)
  • The boys choosing their new anonymous names (like, how terrible are they??)
  • Wen having to navigate a diplomatic event, with Hanji being as unhelpful as possible on the surface but supporting Wen regardless

Canon Info: Trilogy of books, available in all the regular book places. Book 1: Bonds of Brass, Book 2: Oaths of Legacy, Book 3: Vows of Empire.

Fandom: Batman: Wayne Family Adventures (Webcomic)
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne
Why I love this:
It's exactly the Batman comics I always wanted, and the only Bat canon I have ever consumed.  I really genuinely have no interest in any DC proper canon. Wayne Family Adventures is my vibe. And based on the reactions to that, I gather it is highly unusual in terms of cheeriness.
Request: WFA is exactly what I want in a canon, I just want MORE of it! Please give me all your trying-Batdad-Bruce, sibling arguments, everything-is-resolved-by-the-end-of-the-two-parter, loving caring RIDICULOUS feels. I just adore fics where Tim is allowed to be absolutely fucking terrifying in What He Knows, where Bruce is trying SO HARD to be a good dad, where Damian is just Peak Nine Year Old (iykyk), and where Alfred is truly The Only Wayne With A Functional Sense Of Self-Preservation. Feel free to include any/all of the other characters in the tagset, if you're so inclined!
Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: I do not want Bruce or Alfred in a romantic/sexual relationship with any of the Batkids. I also do not want any of the Batkids in romantic/sexual relationships with each other, although allusions to past Babs/Dick and past Steph/Tim is fine.
Prompts:

  • Tim canonically can pick things up with his toes. How did he develop this skill?
  • Way back in episode 12, Tim and Damian get in a prank war. What happens when they gang up to prank Batman in the field?
  • Episode 34, when Bruce tries to sneak out of bedrest, Alfred, Tim, and Damian foil his every escape attempt. What did the group chat look like as they updated each other on his movements?
  • Family movie night! Who picks? How many fights are there? Does everyone manage to stay awake? Who eats what snacks?
  • Who buys Alfred a "world’s best grandpa" mug and how long does Alfred cry?
  • Someone convinces Damian to give Bruce a World's Best Grandpa mug under the auspice of Damian having pets (and therefore Bruce has a granddog). How does Bruce react? (Does he think Damian is telling him one of the other kids is going to be a parent?)
  • Imagine, if you will, Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes) meeting Damian.
  • a frame story from Bruce where he’s trying to figure out wtf happened while he was gone (for JL reasons? just a day at work?) and everyone is telling him a slightly different version of events

Canon Info: Available for free online via Webtoon. (I keep up-to-date but don't have the Fast Pass to early episodes.)

EDITED TO ADD: This is also so pedantic and bitchy but: please please please quadruple check how Alfred is referring to everyone. "Master Firstname" is ONLY for the Batfam themselves. (And "Miss Firstname" for the girls.) Anyone who is neither a Wayne nor a Bat should be Master/Mister/Ms./Mrs. Surname. If they're a child, it's Master/Miss. If an adult man, Mister. (Personally I think Ma Kent would be the only one Alfred would use "Mrs." for, and would use "Ms." otherwise, but I don't know if canon bears that out.) (And obviously in informal/casual situations Alfred drops the titles entirely, as evidenced by episode 47, so if in doubt just use first names.)

Fandom: It's Jeff (Marvel Comics)
Characters: Jeff the Land Shark (It's Jeff)
Why I love this:
This canon always brings me SO MUCH joy, and like with WFA above, I always just want MORE!  I love how low-key the series is, while still managing to be full of Adventure for Jeff.
Request: Please put this ADORABLE BABY into SITUATIONS and SHENANIGANS!!! I'm familiar with a truly random grab-bag of comics canon, so anyone Jeff has met in the series already is fair game to appear here, plus anyone who has appeared in an MCU film. I’m not familiar with any other Jeff canon so if you reference other comics runs please be sure to provide context in the fic. Please keep it gen!
Prompts:

  • I would love anything dealing with the aftermath of any of his in-comics shenanigans, like the sledding with Cap’s shield, or stealing all the weaponry, or eating a superhero's portion of Thanksgiving dinner
  • I would love to see Jeff crashing a wedding, being brought to school for Show and Tell, or participating in some SHIELD lackey's Take Your [Whatever] To Work Day
  • Kate and Jeff go see a movie in issue #22. What movie did they go see? Did they like it? Did either of them get recognized while at the theater?
  • Inspired by Jeff being the Guard Shark at the dog park, Jeff going to the zoo and making friends there!

Canon Info: Available as an online Infinity Comic via Marvel Unlimited. Also in two physical collections, available in normal comic places.

Fandom: Rivers of Light (Disney Parks Attraction)
Characters: Worldbuilding (Rivers of Light)
Why I love it: The original concept, that the park visitors are attending a lantern festival and hearing a story told by the local storytellers, is SUCH a good one. On nights when all of the effects worked correctly, it was MAGICAL to see images appear to leap from waterscreen to boat and back again. The lasers, especially when the smaller lotuses are shooting up irregular streams, looked so freaking cool and really did look like the Aurora. Plus the music makes me FEEL EMOTIONS.
Request: I would love to know what exactly the story being told is. I'd love to know why the shamans/acolytes ended up in charge of this storytelling. What do they do the rest of the day? Is this festival a once a year event? Do the storytellers live on their boats? How did they become shamans? What sort of study do they do? Do they tell other stories? In-universe, are they magicking the lotuses? In universe, who is narrating?? Who makes their clothes?

I think this could work really well as Outsider POV, of someone coming to see the lantern festival, or a story told through notes on study materials.

Canon Info: (copied from my entry on the promo post)
What is it, in summary?:
A sadly now-discontinued "evening spectacular" at Disney World's Animal Kingdom that never quite lived up to the high-tech pitch.

Media: Originally, performances at Disney's Animal Kingdom from 2017-2018. Now, recorded performances viewable on YouTube. (Do be aware that they retooled the show at one point to take out the human performers, which made it more lame, and then made it even lamer by adding Disney IP stuff. This is about the superior original version.)

Approx length: 15 minute "preshow" (very boring to watch, unless the video manages to interact with the performers as they enter the amphitheater and light the lanterns) and 15 minute show itself.

Where to find it: Video of part of the preshow and the whole show, as viewed from audience right, high up. (Start at 9m44s if you want to just watch the show itself.)
Video of a sliver of the preshow and the whole show, as viewed from audience right, up front.
(There are also oodles of other videos, but some are of nights when not all of the effects worked, or the music cuts out, or the videography is terrible.)

Are there sections of canon (rather than the whole canon) that can be consumed by themselves to fulfil your requests, or that showcase particular characters and relationships?:The whole of canon is fairly short, but there are also some additional materials from Disney that help enhance the story. (And have close up photos of the INCREDIBLY DETAILED costumes.) Costumes post is here. Behind the scenes sneak peak is here.

Content warnings (ie, rape, incest, racism, gore/violence):
Intense clip in the middle section of a lion chasing a mama cheetah (from the Disneynature big cats film) but mama cheetah reunites with her babies unharmed.

Things I LOVE in fics:

  • I love stories told through ephemera, whether that's through email, social media, case notes, whatever. I'm not as much of a fan of epistolary stories told solely through one person's journal/diary, but I'm a big fan of stories where that's just one aspect of the story.
  • I'm a big fan of people who are just WILD about the people they like, whether that's romantic/sexual/platonic/whatever.

Fandom: Home Economics (TV)
Characters: Denise, Marina, Sarah, Tom
Why I love this: This show is my COMFORT SHOW. I love how even when shit is FALLING APART, everybody is supportive of each other at the end of the day. I love getting to see how much everyone respects their partner and their siblings(-in-law) even when they Do Not Get Each Other At All. I also really appreciate how little cringe humor there is. It all feels very relatable and I adore that.
Request: Feel free to include the kids, Lupe, or Connor as well! (Please stick to canon ships, though gen is also totally great!!) Marina is 100% my favorite character, so I'd prefer to have the fic focus on her and/or her relationship with the others, even if you don't include EVERYONE. I would love to see anything focusing on her relationship with Tom, how she feels about the different turns their lives have taken, or watching their kids grow up. I appreciated the window into her relationship with Denise that we got in the wedding episode (especially the bit about the wine. Perfection) so anything that dives a little deeper into that relationship would make me happy too! Marina and Sarah haven't had a whole lot of canon spotlight on their relationship, but Sarah WAS one of Marina's 18 bridesmaids, so that whole thing is FREE REAL ESTATE.

Prompt ideas:

  • Marina finding out she's pregnant and telling various members of the family. (Did Tom freak out? Who did Marina tell first? Did Denise find out by accident like in the season 2 scare at the restaurant?)
  • Tom getting his first book deal
  • Sarah and Denise adopting Shamiah and Kelvin--did Marina bury them in food delivery? Did Connor attempt to send them the stupidest fanciest stroller on the market? Did Tom cry?
  • Marina has a baking disaster. Who does she turn to for help? What is causing her stress? How do they all fix it together?

Canon Info: half hour comedy airing on ABC in the USA, currently in its third season. Available to stream on Hulu in the USA.

Fandom: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Characters: Joy Wang
Why I love this: I saw so much of myself in Joy. Like most people, the rocks made me ugly cry, but the nihilism of that scene in particular really really hit home. Then to later see Evelyn turn it around and make it beautiful, and not hopeless, was so life-affirming and validating.
Request: I just want Joy to have good things!!! I want her to be happy and fearless and know that she deserves good things happening to her!!!
Canon Info: 2022 film, unsure where it is available for streaming.

Fandom: Rivers of Light (Disney Parks Attraction)
Characters: Water Shaman | Aseema, Water Acolyte | Ambu, Fire Shaman | Aditya, Fire Acolyte | Ketu
Why I love it: The original concept, that the park visitors are attending a lantern festival and hearing a story told by the local storytellers, is SUCH a good one. I think this could work really well as Outsider POV, of someone coming to see the lantern festival. I think a story told through notes on study materials could be really neat too.

sunrisemagpie: Kate Bishop as Hawkeye on a field of gold glitter (Default)
Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for offering to write in my fandoms! I am also SunriseMagpie on AO3.

So like the admin post said, “This has been an especially tough year for many of us” and I am no exception. I wasn’t even planning on doing Yuletide this year because last year was just so perfect, but after the absolute hellpit that has been 2020, I need to spread and receive joy however I can—and what better way to do that than through fiction?

My definite Do Not Wants: rape/non con, self-harm, incest, graphic descriptions of violence. Unless otherwise indicated, please also no character death. Mentions of the reality of the world today are going to depend on which fandom you elect to write for (specifics below) but please no one catching covid or dying of covid on the page. Background mentions of covid (the disease) in general are okay as long as they’re in passing. I’m totally fine with the plot involving “lockdown” or “quarantine” or “having to stay home and do school/work via Zoom.” If you go that route, though, I do NOT want the story to end at a point where restrictions are lifted and everything is “back to normal”.

Things I LOVE in fics:
You might get a good idea of what I'm about by looking at my bookmarked fics on AO3, but I always want to gush about what I love in fiction.

  • I love stories told through ephemera, whether that's through email, social media, case notes, whatever. I'm not as much of a fan of epistolary stories told solely through one person's journal/diary, but (as evidenced by my love of My Most Excellent Year) I'm a big fan of stories where that's just one aspect of the story.
  • I love stories about people who are in College/University or just done with it and totally lost as to what they want to do with their lives. (Cause that's where I am right now, and it's very comforting to read about characters dealing with this themselves!!)
  • I'm a big fan too of FAKE DATING for parental/family/business benefit, especially if that goes along with SHARING A BED. Also a fan of "pretending we aren't dating" for similar reasons.

Fandom Info:

Fandom: Red White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
Characters: June Claremont-Diaz, Nora Holleran, Percy "Pez" Okonjo

I would absolutely LOVE to see what happened between June, Nora, and Pez that night! Either as a one-off threesome or as the first step on the way to becoming a triad. I’m a big fan of fics that show people trying to navigate a long-time relationship as it shifts to a new understanding (platonic to romantic, casual to serious, platonic to sexual but not romantic, etc.) AND of polyamory negotiations in general. If you are not a fan of the three of them in this framework, then I’m fine with a fic about the three of them in an intense-but-platonic relationship. I would strongly prefer NOT to have a covid-related story if this is the fandom you're writing for, mostly because in canon, covid doesn't exist.

Fandom: GEICO Insurance “Idina Menzel Sings Personalized Theme Song” Commercial
Characters: Idina Menzel (GEICO Insurance "Idina Menzel Sings Personalized Theme Song" Commercial), Tara (GEICO Insurance "Idina Menzel Sings Personalized Theme Song" Commercial)
Link to the ad.

Okay so this ad was on like EVERY SINGLE AD BREAK during the whole NHL playoffs bubble this year and it got stuck in my head in many ways. I know the misreading Tax Attorney as taxidermy thing is an Adele Dazeem reference, but like. I just want to know what it was about Tara that made Idina think that was correct???? After Idina sings the theme song, is she embarrassed? How does she make it up to Tara? (I’m fine with smut, for the record, but I’d prefer it to be of the vanilla kind and not BDSM or D/s) What led Tara to want to become a tax attorney in the first place?

Fandom: My Most Excellent Year – Steve Kluger
Characters: Alejandra Perez, T.C. Keller, Augie Hwong

This book is one of my top two favorite books of ALL TIME, and so few people have ever heard of it, so when I tell you I YELLED upon seeing this in the tagset, I am not being hyperbolic. This book is weirdly timeless, for all that it’s actually pretty firmly set in 2003-2004 school year, so if you decide to set this in the real world, I would prefer if you rolled with the canon timeline for things—meaning TC, Ale, Augie, and Andy graduated high school in 2007, and presumably graduated college in 2011. I’d love anything you do with them in college—who breaks up and who stays together the whole time? I’m leaning towards “Ale and Tick break up mostly due to schedule incompatibility” and “Andy and Augie agonizingly drift apart but get back together shortly after they’re both graduated and have jobs” but whatever headcanons you have are fine by me, as long as the story doesn’t end while they’re broken up. Does TC end up working for Obama’s re-election campaign? Is Ale part of the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton? Does Augie direct/choreograph anything big? Who gets married/has kids first? What role does Hucky continue to play in everyone’s life? I would strongly prefer NOT to have a covid-related story if this is the fandom you're writing for.

Fandom: Knives Out (2019)
Characters: Marta Cabrera, Benoit Blanc (Knives Out)

I absolutely adore the rapport between Marta and Benoit, but I guess I'm in the fandom minority because I don't ship Marta with ANYONE from this movie. So a major DNW is PLEASE NO ROMANTIC OR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MARTA AND BENOIT. I would love anything with the two of them after the events of the film--do they keep working together on cases? Does Marta keep being a nurse but constantly gets phone calls from Benoit at 2am where he tells her all about his current case? How does Marta's lying-induced vomiting affect their friendship? Honestly, I'd actually be really interested to see how each of them deal with covid and everything--if you go this route, I'm fine with OCs getting covid/their deaths being mentioned, but PLEASE no one from the film dying. (Also, as above, please don't write about the future. Probably best to set it at the latest in October 2020.) What I'm looking for in this is a replication of the respect and snark these two have for each other.
